No fogging or anti-larval operations in any part of the town
Hospitals are abuzz with patients suffering from seasonal diseases including dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases
KARIMNAGAR: Minister for Civil Supplies and BC Welfare Gangula Kamalakar has made tall claims that the Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar has embarked upon an ambitious task of launching fogging and anti-larval operations to check the mosquito menace in the town.
He made this statement while launching the 10 hand-held fogging machines purchased at a cost of Rs 5.15 lakhs on July 28, 2022. He promised to ensure that there were regular fogging operations in all the municipal divisions by utilising the 10 hand-held machines, two truck-mounted machines and six-rickshaw mounted fogging machines. He also assured special drive of taking up anti-larval operations in the town.
Ironically, it is over one month after the launching of the hand-held fogging machines, there were no fogging operations in any part of the town except for the municipal corporators houses. Though the people had been appealing to municipal corporators to take up fogging operations, but in vain.
On the other hand, there was a high incidence of dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases and seasonal diseases in Karimnagar town. All the hospitals are filled with patients suffering from fever and mosquito-borne diseases. Still, the MCK authorities have not taken up fogging or anti-larval operations in the town.
Incidentally, this correspondent had also informed the municipal corporators concerned of Bhagathnagar locality to take up fogging and anti-larval operations a month ago, but in vain. All the drains in the Vasudeva colony in Bhagathnagar locality were filled to the brim and turned into breeding places for the mosquitoes. There was no removal of silt and the municipal authorities were responsible for the clogging of drains and breeding of mosquitoes.
On the other hand, the district authorities have launched the weekly every Tuesday and Friday dry day programmes in various parts of the town. Collector RV Karnan along with Additional Collector Garima Agrawal, Municipal Commissioner Seva Islavath, DMHO Dr Zuveria and others participated in the programme of educating the residents to remove the stagnated water and keep the surroundings clean.
On the other hand, the Municipal authorities, who have entrusted the job of taking up fogging and anti-larval operations, remained a mute spectator’s inspite of having the necessary machinery for fogging and anti-larval operations. The people of the town have been blaming the MCK for its negligent attitude in taking up fogging operations.
