Their vans feature the phrase “Cleaning Colorado since 1977.” Briggs Carpet Care in Estes Park not only scrubs floor coverings, though. The company offers mold, fire and water mitigation as well.

“The main reason I like it is that it’s our own business,” said President and owner Michael Briggs. “We’re the only people who do this who live in Estes Park. We know what we’re doing. We try to do the best work we can at a reasonable price and we are very busy.”

Michael Briggs father, Jerry, started the company in Longmont 43 years ago. In January of 1996, Michael Briggs bought a machine and moved his part of the business to Estes Park.

“We started with just carpet cleaning,” Michael Briggs explained. “We also clean grout and tile.”

When Michael Briggs’ son Jeff joined the family business in 2010, he brought with him a new set of skills. He is a Project Manager who is trained for helping with water, fire and mold mitigation, as well as cleaning.”

“When it comes to mold mitigation, depending on the severity of it, there are multiple factors you’ve got to look into,” Jeff Briggs said. “Is there cross-contamination into more areas of the home that you can’t see? A lot of times we bring in a third party environmental hygienist who will take samples. Depending on how elevated those samples are, how high the spore counts are, they then draw the protocol for us to follow to properly mitigate and clean.”

For water damage – like after a plumbing leak — Briggs Carpet care uses a thermal imaging camera that gives the specialists a good visual of what is wet. Sometimes the dry wall does not look compromised, but it still needs dried out from the inside.

“We’ve got air movers,” Jeff Briggs noted. “We’ve got dehumidification. We’ve got negative air machines. We do have portable heating units in the wintertime if a furnace goes out so we can still dry out the area.”

For smoke damage – like when someone forgets to open the damper to the chimney on a fireplace – Briggs Carpet Care takes chemical sponges and wipes down the entire structure and the contents.

“After that, we go through and we clean everything. We have ozone machines and other odor control machines and a thermal fogging process that recreates where the smoke went. It’s a two-part chemical that neutralizes the odor and puts a different odor in the air so you are not smelling that smoke.”

Jeff Briggs remembered working with his family from a young age, pulling hoses or moving tables and chairs for a job.

Now, he said, “Being close to family and being able to work with dad every day, I feel like we are fortunate. I like what I do because I know I can come in and take care of people’s immediate needs.”

Michael Briggs noted that he started his business in Estes Park with cold calls. Then he put an ad in the newspaper and a realtor called him. From that, another realtor called and his business took off.

Briggs Carpet Care also cleans the local library and municipal buildings as well as accommodations all over town.
